Tales of A G |
||||
| 2002
spawns a new error in history. 2001 brought many chaotic events that will
impair our lives for eternity. From the 9-11 event to rap music being
scrutinized even more for it's harsh lyrical content. And in raps darkest moments, arrives a new artist with an upcoming album guaranteed to cause malay in an already frantic industry perservering through scrutinizing times. His secret to success, reality raps. Tales from a black man entrapped by poverty and dire consequences. Mac Money is who I am referring to. He is the second artist from Bow Wow Records to come out with a solo album and plans to uphold the standards set by his label mate, Mr. D.O.G. for rap from their home town. Being that we (Kennel Insight) like to bring it to you first, we wanted to be your personal prelude to the life and times of Mac Money. We caught up to him in Redmond at one of his performances, and chopped it up for a few. This is what he had to say. With all the various rappers out there, what makes you different? What do you bring to the table? Originality. My style is natural. I ride the beat and say what's in my heart. I come with nothing but reality and talk about things most rappers are ashamed or too "hard" to talk about. How did you manage to get signed to Bow Wow Records? I was in Portland, Oregon learning about the industry, working on a few songs. Mr. D.O.G., a long time friend, and cell mate, was in Tacoma doing big thangs. I was in transition back to Tacoma and did a song called "Hilltop Hooker". He heard it and put the friendship to the side to give me his honest opinion on the song, which was in my favor. He asked me to get down with Bow Wow. I went on the road with him a few times to see if it would be a wise decision and after I saw his dedication to the craft, we made it official. Where did you come up with the name of your album? And what exactly does the G stand for? The title was brought to my attention by Mr. D.O.G. as well. I thought about it and almost all my songs are a story or tale of some sort, so I stuck with it. The G, in my mind, stands
for more than one thing. Obviously gangsta, but also God because I believe
all people of color are of divine essence and I talk about a lot of
esoteric things in my songs. Almost every song, regardless of what I'm
talking 'bout has some kind of subliminal spiritual message.

What is your
favorite track(s) on the album? Why? "United We
Stand" and "What's Your Reality". I like "United We Stand"
because I'm talking about alot of current events dealing with the
government and this so-called "WAR" America has waged against the Islamic
world. I talk about the injustices in the judicial system. Like how they
(the government) killed Tim McVeigh and the few Davidans that were
massacred in Waco,TX.
But at the same time, they
didn't annihilate every racist militia's members. Instead they are
currently killing thousands of Muslims in the middle-East.
"What's Your Reality" is along them same lines but deeper. I'm dealing with religion, state, and government, as well as the miseducation of the spiritual world. Do you have any features on your album? If so, who? Yes sir, my boy, MC, Yukmouth, D.O.G., and a couple more. You just have to listen for it. What else have you been working on? Well I am currently featured on FunkDaddy's Mix Vol. 12, and Lou Nutt's Da Morgue. Do you receive a lot of hate in your area? Most of the artist we talk to are always talking about how others hate on them. No, truthfully I have yet to gain a "hater". I believe alot of people relate well to me and what I talk about. I don't glorify what little things I do have so the anger of a less fortunate brother isn't excited. I don't set myself apart from others. Nobody hates on Mac Money, at least not publicly. Is it true that your mother was really kidnapped and murdered? I heard you state that in one of your songs. Yes, it's true. Someone robbed her. She was missing for a week and was found halfway on the street and the curb lifeless. How did it feel putting that in a song? Well I just threw it out there. I didn't go into details, so not much emotions was put into that statement. I just wanted to my ninjas on the ground floor know that I've been through it just like them. What was it like doing a track with Yukmouth? Man, it was an experience. Yuk is gifted. After the song was recorded, he aint changed...that's a real cat. He's been through alot of the same things in life as myself. We connected well. I'd love to blaze another track with Yuk any day. "I talk about the injustices in the judicial system. Like how they (the government) killed Tim McVeigh and the few Davidans that were massacred in Waco,TX. But at the same time, they didn't annihilate every racist militia's members. Instead they are currently killing thousands of Muslims in the middle-East." |
With all the harshness on the album, what made you do a song like "Slow Down"? I had to talk to my sisters on a real level. I praise the strong "Black Woman" for 72 bars and don't shun but educate my sisters with low morals. Everybody meets on a level, but once all the mask and everything else are shed, you gotta deal with the real and that's the message I'm giving in this song. What's your Reality is deep. How did you come up with that track? Well I don't mean to sound like I'm high and mighty, but "What's Your Reality" is not deep. It's everything everyone should know. I talk about Jesus and his relation esoterically to astrology. The Zodiac and other mystical prophets of the ancient world. I talk about Atlantis and deal with numerology on a basic level familiar to those who are of the 5% Nation. Who would you like to work with later on down the line? Rick James, George Clinton, C-Bo, Dr. Dre, Nas, Common and maybe a few more. What can we expect from Mac in the future? Same stuff. Reality Raps. If you mean the projects that I will be on, then I will be on my label mate's, Big Squeeze's album, as well as Mr. D.O.G.'s new album. Mr. D.O.G. & I are actually working on a duo CD as well. So keep your eyes on the look out for all of those. Any shots out or last words? I first give all praise to the Most High and all his prophets and messengers. Prince Hall Masons wherever so found on the face on the earth. Big Squeeze. My mother for her guidance, may you rest in peace. Mr. D.O.G. for giving me this opportunity and to all who have and will assist me in making it successfully in this industry. Thanks. So there you have it.
