According to the Associated Press, Mystikal (Michael Tyler), along with two other men, were charged with aggravated rape and extortion. Authorities revealed they confiscated a video of the alleged sexual assaults from the rapper's Baton Rouge home. The tape, which has been placed into evidence, allegedly shows Mystikal and two other men, Leland Ellis and Vercy Carter, threatening the rapper's 40-year-old hair stylist and forcing her to have sex with them, according to Cpl. Mary Ann Godawa, a spokesperson for the Baton Rouge Police Department. If convicted, the charge of aggravated rape carries a mandatory life sentence. The police charge that the rapper raped a 40-year-old woman on July 3 when she arrived at his home to braid his hair because the victim accepted checks against the rapper's bank account even though she knew he didn't authorize them. When the woman appeared at the rapper's home in Louisiana, she was threatened and forced to perform oral sex on him, police report. Tyler then called the two other men and told them to come over to the house, according to police. When the two men arrived, Tyler allegedly raped her as they watched. SOUTH PARK MEXICAN GETS 45 YEARS IN THE PENN
Carlos "South Park Mexican" Coy was sentenced to 45 years in prison after a jury convicted him of sexually assaulting a 9 year old girl. Coy, who took the stand in his own defense despite objections from his attorney, displayed no emotion when the judge read the sentence. Coy was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
Defense attorney Chip Lewis maintained that Coy was innocent and that his trial was based entirely on hearsay. Coy testified that eight women who claimed they had sex with him while still underage were lying to the jury about their claims. "Mr. Coy I have spent 17 years in this courthouse, and in that time I have seen more sex offenders than I wish to remember," Judge Mark Kent Eliis. "But one thing that I have found over time is that sex offenders have one trait in common, and that is that they all are liars -- and you are no exception to that rule."
The judge dismissed Coy's notion that he was also a victim in the case, because of his celebrity as a wealthy rapper. "The fact is that there is only one victim in this case, and it is a 9-year-old girl," Ellis said. "Now that is reality, and you need to deal with it. It's time for you to face the music," he said.
Prosecutors were seeking a life sentence against Coy. It was not clear at presstime whether Coy plans to appeal the sentence
C-Murder to stand trial!
Corey "C-Murder" Miller will stand trial in the second-degree murder of 16 year old Steve Thomas last January at a Harvey, New Orleans night club. Miller is accused of shooting Thomas after an argument ensued at Club Platinum, which has since been closed.
Miller, who has pleaded not guilty to the crime, was ordered to be held without bail after authorities claimed he bribed two Jefferson Parish officers to smuggle in a cell phone and charger. The prosecutors claim Miller used the phone to communicate with friends in attempt to harm or intimidate witnesses. Despite over 300 people being present and several identifying Miller as the shooter, most were hesitant to come forward and cooperate with police.
Miller's defense claim that he is a victim of mistaken identity. Miller's trial begins September 17th.
Def Jam Shuts Down Jay-Z/R.Kelly Collabo
The project, "Best of Both
Worlds," was set to change the Rap and R & B game seems to have
fallen short for both Jive and Def Jam Records. Def Jam has officially
announced that they are halting any further promotion on the Jay-Z and R.
Kelly collaborated CD The Best of Both Worlds. Arriving in stores March
19th amidst the R. Kelly sex tape scandal
that surfaced in February, first week sales of the cd only reached
230,000, way off the projected mark of one million.
To protect one of its top hit makers, Def Jam execs will no longer be
releasing photos of Jay-Z and R. Kelly together and have scrapped any
ideas of a tour or video. “We don’t want any negative association that
might come with a video, any accusations or anything”, said Def Jam
president Kevin Lyles in a recent issue of Time magazine. Allegedly,
through an intermediary Jay-Z thanked Vibe editor for removing a cover of
him with R. Kelly.
Kelly’s label, Jive, attributes the disappointing sales of "The Best of
Both Worlds" to an industry wide depression and massive bootlegging.
Notorious B.I.G's Family Files Lawsuit Against LAPD
The family of Notorious B.I.G. has sued the city of Los
Angeles, alleging that the Police Department could have done more to
prevent the rapper's 1997 murder, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The
civil rights and wrongful death suit, filed in federal court Tuesday April
9th, names the city, Police Chief Bernard Parks,
former Police Chief Willie Williams
and others. Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was
Christopher Wallace, was gunned down
outside the Petersen Automotive Museum on March 9, 1997, after a music
industry party. No one has been arrested for the 24-year-old rapper's
slaying. The suit, which seeks unspecified damages, was filed on behalf of
Wallace's mother, wife, son, daughter, and the daughter's guardian.
HIP-HOP DEEJAY FUNKMASTER FLEX HAS BEEN HIT WITH
PATERNITY SUIT.
According to the New York Daily News, Hot 97 deejay and
MTV VJ, Funkmaster Flex (real name: Aston George Taylor Jr.) could be in
hot water. The hip-hop producer/entrepreneur has been hit with a paternity
suit. Haydee Diaz, 31, would
like financial support for her 11-month-old baby, Dante. Though Flex is
demanding a DNA test, Diaz told the Daily News: "I have no doubt Dante is
his child." She added - in her New York Family Court suit - that Flex has
"acknowledged paternity of the child by furnishing support." Diaz also
says, "He was supportive when I was pregnant. He said, 'I will help you
out. Whatever you want.' "But now he shows no pride in his son," she
contends. She says she stopped having sex with Flex last June.
"He wants to continue the sexual relationship. Last month, he said, 'Have
you gotten birth control yet?'"
The real problem for Flex is that he's married to Oxygen Network host,
Monica Joseph. Unbeknownst to Diaz, who met Flex at a
nightclub in 1998, Flex and Joseph married two years ago after dating for
10 years. They now have a 9-month-old daughter, Jayden.
Flex's rep told the Daily News, "He feels like [Diaz] is trying to take
advantage of Flex as a public figure." Oh, and one other thing: "He loves
his wife." Expect sparks to fly at next month's family court hearing.
Diaz, who works for the investment banking firm, Goldman Sachs, has hired
Suzanne Kimberly Bracker, who just
handled model Kim Porter's child support action against
Sean (Puffy) Combs. Flex, who also has
his own record label, marketing company and has loaned his likeness to
Nike, Lugz and
Starter Apparel, has retained the equally talented
Robert Stephan Cohen, whose clients have included New York
City's mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg
Beef within the label?
On Eastside Records....Bullet & Shaolin is getting play, the album will be dropping soon, but the group is no longer together. Bullet, the CEO and main artist of Eastside Records went as far as to talk derogatory on his ex-artist in his first magazine interview with Krunk Magazine of Eastern Washington. And on Street Level, Byrdie has been removed (even after the recent success of the single, "Playa's Policy Pt. 2"). D-Sane made a statement over an internet chatroom stating that Byrdie is no longer on his label. "There have been issues between Byrdie and I for quite some time and we haven't been able to successfully squash them. I know many of you were wondering what was up and I just wanted to be the first to tell you." When asked to elaborate, D-Sane said "I don't want to make more of this than what it is. He is a nice lyricist and a cool individual, we just didn't gel properly as a unit."
